Licenses that permit commercial use
CC BY, CC BY-SA, and CC BY-ND permit commercial reuse when their conditions are met. CC0 is designed to remove copyright conditions, while NC licenses do not authorize commercial use.
The picture can contain separate rights
A photo license does not automatically clear a person’s publicity or privacy rights, a logo’s trademark rights, or copyright in artwork visible inside the image. Sensitive advertising uses deserve additional review.
Keep a provenance file
Save the original URL, creator, item identifier, full license and version, access date, and any model or property release. Verify that the license applies to the exact image rather than only to the surrounding website.
